“A 2x2 War” changes Germen audience attitude toward Iran: stage director

TEHRAN, July 1 (MNA) -- The play “A 2x2 War” director Nima Dehqan here Saturday said that the German audience changed their minds about Iran after watching the comedy.

At the invitation of Dieter Kummel, the director of German theatrical troupe Marienbad, the play was staged at the 24th International Theater Festival in Freiburg from June 15-25.

“A 2x2 War” written by Hamid-Reza Azarang, focuses on the eight-year Iran-Iraq war.

“However, it was interesting for the German audience to see that Iranians depicted the comic view of war and declare that they are not aggressive,” Dehqan said.

“The Fact Is That the Sun Revolves Around Us” written and directed by Siamak Ehsaii, and “Only God Can Wake Me Up” directed by Mohammad Aqebati are other Iranian entries to the event.

However director Hadi Marzban, who also attended the festival, maintains that participating groups were not suitable representatives for Iranian theater.

The 24th edition presented productions addressing faith and religion – the themes that are gaining new significance as reflected in current discussions in today's society.

This year’s festival put great emphasis on acquainting audiences with Islamic-influenced theater tradition and the current Iranian theater scene.
